Five Metrics to Measure the Success of Your Blog

You call yourself a blogger just because you have a blog or you are actually justifying the term “blogger”. Being a blogger you are supposed to update creative content on your blog, share blog post with your audience and interact with them on regular basis. Just having huge number of followers and with ‘0’ interaction doesn’t justify you as a blogger. Blogger is a person who holds the value of influencing their readers by writing their views/opinion on blog.
To connect with target audience brands are always looking for bloggers who can help them in establishing a connection with the audience thus gaining brand awareness, back links and quality visitors.
Just a writing a post of 400 words with a back link doesn’t justify your efforts as a blogger involved in a blogging campaign. Being a blogger you should always measure your work on monthly, weekly or even on daily basis. Your analytic numbers that will tell you whether you are doing a good job or a terrible job, numbers will show you what you should do to have better results.
And these numbers should be analysed looking through a filter of metrics. Metrics that will help you not only looking at some numbers but also determine where you want to get with your blogging goals.
We have listed down 5 metrics you should look after you published a blog post:
  • Visits
  • Engagements
  • Links
  • Social Media Shares
  • Conversions

1. Visits

After publishing a blog post you should look at how many visits this post has got. How much traffic you gained from that blog post. Always remember that your website also needs traffic to get known by others and you also need to integrate Google Analytics on your blog to see these numbers.
You can’t have a good content marketing strategy if you don’t invest in quality and you can’t get good traffic on your website, if you don’t invest in quantity.
So, visits on your blog post can be a metrics for brand to measure your worth.

2. Engagements (Likes, Shares, Comments etc)

The next metrics we recommend you to measure is “engagement”.
Here comes the human part of your content marketing. Because here you need to get not only personal but also to try to understand what intents your visitors have when they engage.
If people are commenting on your blog it means that you are doing a good job because you had their attention.

3. Links

As a content marketer you need to know the power of links. You should know which keyword needs to be hyperlinked and to which website you should be giving back link, this activity falls under SEO. You can participate on blogging and social communities and there you can share your blog post link. In return you will be getting some amount of traffic by generating a quality back link for your blog.
You need to have a proper balance between writing for Google and writing for humans. It’s better for write a quality portion or humans because they are the one who are adding value to your blog as an audience.

4. Social Media Shares

If you want to get more shares on social media you need to look at your followers today and take them into consideration. Who are they? Why they are following you? What type of content they engage more?
Work out a proper social media strategy for your blog. Write quality content and use catchy heading which can hold reader’s attention. Be a part of relevant community where you can post about your latest blog post.
Remember having more than 30,000 followers on Twitter or Instagram doesn’t make any sense till the time you have good number of likes, re-tweets or re-post/re-shares on your social post.
Brands loves to engage influencers who are producing engaging content on social media so along with blog post they would also like to see how many social shares you have received.

5. Conversions

Work in sync with the brand’s objective. Understand the campaign clearly that in return brand is expecting what from your blog post. Are they looking to gain brand awareness, engagement, traffic or leads?

Conclusion

These 5 blogging metrics you can use to measure your blogging goals and your success with your blog post. It’s easy to write a blog post, but it’s kind of difficult to measure with the right metrics and to see what success did you have with it.

Influencers have credibility and reliability. Prospects listen to what influencers have to say and take their advice, brands can utilize this power of influencers while promoting any new product.

4. Traditional Marketing Channels Are Dying
Last 2 years trend shows that “influencer marketing” is rising over “print advertising” and “display advertising”. INFLUENCER INTERVIEW: Ritcha Verma ( www.ritchstyles.com )

Q1: In which all influencer marketing campaigns have you participated on Blogmint?
A1:
  • Blogging
  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Instagram

Q2: What is your primary category?
A2:
  • Fashion
  • Travel
  • Lifestyle
  • Food
  • Parenting
  • Technology

Q3: For the people who don’t know about you, Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?
A3: Hi I'm Ritcha. I have a blog called Ri(t)ch Styles - www.RitchStyles.com

I’m a corporate communications and media professional by profession and a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blogger and a fashion stylist by passion :) I have blended my experience and knowledge with my passion to create high value content for my blog, my readers and my clients. I am also a mommy to my two year old daughter, who too now is a part of my blog so when you head there, you are bound to come across some really cute stuff. My blog is all about the power of being beautiful and loving yourself the way you are. Be it fashion, beauty, lifestyle or mommyhood - it's about living a Ri(t)ch Life Stylishly :) Get updated on the latest fashion movements, good buys, current trends, new styles, store reviews, styling tips, savings, happenings, events, travel stories, good food and drinks, mommy friendly tips and baby fashion all at your fingertips.

Q4: Every website has a story behind it. What was yours? What was the motivation behind starting this Blog?
A4: Way before I started the blog, I used to do makeovers in my free time and personally shop for people because most of the stuff I wore or bought was appreciated and people wanted to know how they could get their hands on similar stuff and good deals and how to put together combinations and tips and all. Reading has also been a passion and so while reading all the lovely fashion blogs a few years ago, I decided that one of the best ways for me to express myself would be through my own personal blog where I could share my ideas and that’s how Ri(t)ch Styles came into being. Ri(t)ch Styles was originally known as 'Fashion from around the World' as I used to travel a lot and pick up a lot of stuff while travelling, but after marriage, a tip from my husband gave me the brilliant idea to change the name to Ri(t)ch Styles :) Apt as it related to my name RITCHA and to my personal style.

Q5: Do you ever get stuck when writing a blog? What do you do then?
A5: Just like you, your brain also needs a detox. So when I get stuck writing a blog, I take a break by spending time with my daughter, reading and researching new stuff to keep myself updated about the current happenings in the industry and inspire to do something on that level. When it is a longer spell, I also travel as that reboots me.

Q6: If there was one thing that you feel makes your blog stand out, what would that be?
A6: My blog name itself. While a lot of people have stylish names for their blog, I have added a personal touch with my name which also spells out what I want to convey through my blog - living a Ri(t)ch Life Stylishly. The feedback on the same has also been very positive as people instantly connect to it.

Q7: If you had to give three advice to newbie bloggers, what would that be? *
A7:
Content is King
The frequency of your content doesn't matter if your content doesn't interest, engage or give out some kind of information to your reader. Even if you post everyday but the content is not of any interest to your reader, then your efforts are going to go waste. Also copying or plagiarizing content is a big NO-NO - Be Original!
Passion
Blogging is not just about writing and putting up some pictures. It is way beyond that. You have to be passionate about what you are doing and the topics you are writing on. Please do not think of starting a blog just for the fun of it. You will lose interest eventually like a lot of bloggers that I have seen come and go in these 5 years because of their lack of passion. You have to keep the blog posts coming and be consistent so that your readers stay engaged. Blogging has to become a part of your daily life - not in terms of churning a blog post out every day, but atleast in thought and planning so that your blog takes shape well.
Keep educating yourself
It is important to keep improving and learning in order to stay relevant to your followers. There is no end to learning even if you are getting more and more popular. In fact the pressure increases to do better in every way. Learning from mistakes is vital as well. Embracing feedback and trying to work on it to improve is essential. Read, interact with the industry, acquaint yourself with new happenings, mingle with peers - basically do whatever it takes for you to keep educating yourself further in order to educate your readers.

Q8: Do you promote your blog? What promotional techniques work best for you and why?
A8: Social Media has got so much bigger and better, that it is the best way to connect to my readers and I resort to social media for promoting my blog. Consistency is the key!

Q9: And Influencer Marketing – what it holds for bloggers?
A9: Influencer Marketing is becoming an integral part and it is very important for brands as well as bloggers. For brands it becomes a more real and organic way to reach their audiences, and for bloggers it is great to be paid for what we love to do and put our sincere efforts into. However it always has to be providing the right information which is what our readers come to us for. If there is a tug of war between what you want to convey and what a brand wants, then it is better to let go of such campaigns. My experience of this kind however has been very rare as most brands that I work with give me full editorial control and respect my opinions and take the negatives as feedback.

Q10: What do you find to be the most gratifying aspect of blogging?
A10: The most gratifying would be the feeling of being appreciated by readers, getting their feedback and also their queries which they believe I can give solutions too. So many new mothers write to me on how to bounce back to normalcy, embrace their new bodies, and for quick beauty solutions because they look up to me as a new mommy who juggles so much. Blogging has been a truly rewarding journey.

Q11: Who has been your inspiration?
A11: I look up to a lot of International and Indian bloggers but my biggest inspiration has been my love for fashion and looking good :)

Q12: Engaging in influencer marketing is fruitful but most of the bloggers feel there are some characteristic problems while engaging with brands. How is your experience of engaging with brands and problems, if any?
A12: Like I said, if there is a tug of war between what you want to convey and what a brand wants, then it is better to let go of such campaigns. My experience of this kind however has been very rare as most brands that I work with give me full editorial control and respect my opinions and take the negatives as feedback.

Real FAQs of Influencer Marketing

Influencer marketing is a growing trend and a tactic that you should consider adding to your marketing mix. Given that influencer marketing is now the hottest new trend in the marketing space currently, all top brands are using this method to reach their potential audience.

Marketing via ‘influencers’ used to mean professional sports persons pitching expensive shoes or actors selling cosmetics. Today, thanks to social media to a very large extent, some of the most successful influencers are practically businesses themselves, with large followings and engaged users.

Keeping this in mind, we have put together a list of frequently asked questions about influencer marketing-

1. What is Influencer Marketing- How does it work?

It is a strong word of mouth marketing strategy. For a brand, a digital influencer is someone who could help increase the business of the brand and spread an organic word of mouth in the influencers circle in exchange for monetary benefits or free products/services.

A brand collaborates with an influencer on social media or via their blog to promote a product or service on a specific online channel.

The strategy involves content creation & amplification across various social media channels including-
  • Twitter
  • Instagram
  • Facebook
  • YouTube
  • Linkedin
  • Pinterest
  • Blogs

2. Why Should I Use Influencer Marketing?

Influencer marketing works for three reasons:
  •  Relies on trust: It takes advantage (in a good way) of the trust influencers have earned from their    constituency.
  • Penetrates a niche: Influencer marketing relies not on breadth but depth regarding numbers — a  heuristic that says it’s better to penetrate deeply into a niche market rather than shallowly across a  broad market.
  • It’s Targetable and Trackable: Decisions without data are shots in the dark at best. For decades,  the advertising industry was limited to shooting in the dark, having only access to traditional   strategies that yielded murky information about audience reach, sales funnel influence, and branding   impact.
It can be cost effective too without requiring a huge investment of resources.

3. In what scenario’s can I use influencer marketing?

Influencer marketing can be used by varied brands in multiple ways. For example, a startup or a new product/service launch can be enabled via influencer marketing – e.g. Le Eco phone launch. An existing brand can leverage it to promote a new product line or category – e.g. Honda launched its new car through influencers. Influencers are a great way to amplify an existing social media or integrated campaign – e.g. we are currently running a campaign for Shoppers Stop to amplify their shopping sale.

Here is a list of top influencer campaigns that blogmint recently executed:

4. Why is Influencer Marketing Popular?
There used to be a time when brands turned to big celebrities for product endorsements. Influencer marketing is the digital version of that, except celebrities in this case are social media peers or bloggers with significant following and reach.

Many a times before purchasing a particular product, a consumer turns to his/her peer for an opinion on the product. The brand collaborates with Influencers because the influencers have the power to influence the decision-making of their following.

You can have a look at our Digital Marketing Industry Report which showcases that 87% of marketing and communications professionals will use Influencer Engagement in 2016.

5. How do I identify the right influencer for my brand?

Influencers are broadly divided into 4 categories –
  • Key/Celebrity Influencers: Include celebrities, industry thought leaders and leading bloggers
  • Social Influencers: Individuals with significant online influence like social media celebrities
  • Peer Influencers: Individuals closest to the consumer circle like – family, friends, colleagues
  • Bloggers
Influencers typically focus on a particular area like food, parenting, fitness, fashion, e-commerce or technology. Influencer marketing platforms like Blogmint have huge database of influencers across all genre. Relevant influencers are usually shortlisted based on the brand, its business, target audience, geography and the marketing objective.
e.g. - A new restaurant looking for launch would engage food bloggers who can help cover their brand on blogs and social media channels.

6. How are Influencers shortlisted?

Our platform shortlists based on the following metrics:
  • MOZ Domain Authority- It reflects the popularity of the blog. It represents the importance of the web page on the internet. A good MoZ rank is between 25-39.
  • Quality of content – The quality of the content is very crucial. The right quality of content can inspire the audience to take the right action.
  • Unique visitors to the Blog – In addition to the page views and traffic that a bloggers draws to his website, Unique visitors help spread the brands story to the target audience. Size and quality of followers is an important metric to consider while shortlisting.
  • Relevance to the brand – It is very important to pick relevant blogger for the relevant campaign. The relevant blogger helps pushing the brand message to his target audience.
  • Previous work – This gives you a sense of the blogger's work. Previous performance data like – social media engagement, likes on their blogs, shares help you narrow your choice.

7. What is the ROI I can expect through influencer marketing?

This is the most often asked question by brands. Influencer marketing helps in brand building, loyalty, social media engagement and in the mid to long term even helps in growing sales and revenue.
In the short term, brands should not expect a large spike in the transactions due to Influencer marketing but can expect authentic word of mouth with their target audience. Apart from creating amazing content, influencer marketing helps in driving traffic to the website/app, social media engagement- shares, likes, links to the article, total impressions, higher ranking through quality backlinks (SEO), growth in organic traffic and eventually sales/leads

8. Are the Influencers Paid ?

Nothing is free in this world. Influencers are compensated for the campaigns in either monetary terms or free samples/service/products depending on the business and campaign.

We hope we have motivated you to launch your campaign and get influencers to cover your brand!

INFLUENCER INTERVIEW: PANKAJ BANSAL

Q1: For the people who don’t know about you, Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?
A: I am interested in two things: reading and writing. Reading keeps me updated about what is going around in the world. Writing gives me the power to express my opinion about things that I like or dislike, When you blend both these things: IT BRINGS OUT THE BLOGGER IN ME. That is who I am. I like to express my opinion and aware people.

My blog, Newspatrolling.com is a Multi-Author platform, where various authors (from different parts of countries) have expertise in various writing field or space share their views & opinion on their personal experience & research. Here, readers could find only unbiased stories & reviews around maximum domains like Entertainment, Life Style, Travel, Health, Finance, Automobile and more.

Our primary motto is to maintain the integrity of our blog stories and opinions. We are the voice of several individuals and organizations that utilize our platform as an effective alternative for mainstream media.

Q2: Every website has a story behind it. What was yours? What was the motivation behind starting this Blog?
A: I still remember that day, I was in Standard VIII, I just started taking English tuition's. First advice my English tutor gave me was to read morning newspaper daily. I continued following that and I even read a lot nowadays. After being a silent reader for a while I felt the urge to express my opinions about what is happening around me. So, I started blogging and expressing. And after a while I wanted to have my own platform to do that, thus I started News Patrolling.

Q 3. Do you ever get stuck when writing a blog? What do you do then?
A: Many times. Right and wrong are just perspectives. When you write about something you have to stay neutral. That can be challenging at times. What I do in such scenarios is to listen to my heart and write what comes up.

Q 4: If there was one thing that you feel makes your blog stand out, what would that be?
A: Honesty. You will find nothing but honest opinions in my blogs.

Q 5: If you had to give three crazy advices to budding bloggers, what would that be?
A: Be daring, write on relevant topics and give honest views.

Q 6: Do you promote your blog? What promotional techniques work best for you and why?
A: Promotion works only when your topics are crowd pullers. My biggest source of promotion is the choice of topics. I write about things that generate interest and encourage online visitors to read through. Apart from this, I know a few SEO tricks too!

Q 7: What do you find to be the most gratifying aspect of blogging?
A: Freedom to express yourself, to write about things that prick your mind. That is the beauty of blogging.

Q 8: And Influencer Marketing – what it holds for bloggers?
A: Our primary mission is to seek ‘journalistic truth’ through our blogs, so, influencer marketing is secondary to us. It can be a byproduct of our endeavors; for example, when we let our readers know about a really good product, it would primarily be our mission to seek out the truth, although it will also act as an influencer.

Q 9: Engaging in influencer marketing is fruitful but most of the bloggers feel there are some characteristic problems while engaging with brands. How is your experience of engaging with brands and problems, if any?
A: Yes, agree. Big one is financial issue. It is very painful when Brands don’t make payment on time. And even, some don’t make after the work get done (they keep giving lame excuses & nothing).
But, from when, I get associated with BLOGMINT (As per to my knowledge, this is first only platform which is providing monetary benefits to bloggers), I never faced any financial issue. Even, it becomes easy to know which Brand has which type of requirement (like blog post, vlog, tweets, insta post etc).

So, would love to say BIG THANKS TO BLOGMINT to address the pain of bloggers.
