For the people who don’t know about you, Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?
My name is Anamika Sureka. I started WiseShe in Jan 2010 as a beauty and makeup blog. Wiseshe is now one of India’s biggest women’s website which has four popular domains running successfully with over 15,000 posts. Every month, hundreds of WiseShe writers publish more than 500 articles on Makeup, beauty products, baby products, weight loss, fashion and travel on different blogs.
We now have a dedicated team who works on all the domains and we have related youtube channels along with it.
Every website has a story behind it. What was yours? What was the motivation behind starting this Blog?
I was preparing for UPSC exams when one of my friends who is a very popular blogger inspired me. I joined him just to help him out and then later on he suggested me to start my own blog.
I started my blog when there weren’t many blogs on women related topics. I started WiseShe to keep myself occupied. As it grew I became even more motivated to produce quality content that kept my readers interested. Now the growing WiseShe family keeps me motivated to do better every day and we have two youtube channels as well names as wiseshe makeup and wiseshe mom and baby TV
Do you ever get stuck when writing a blog? What do you do then?
It is common to come against a block when you are creating something new on a daily basis. When stuck, I look around for what is trending and mix up my own ideas with that to come up with interesting posts.
If there was one thing that you feel makes your blog stand out, what would that be?
WiseShe is not just a beauty blog. It also talks about issues that women face in the society. We try to come up with solutions to the problems that Indian women have to go through.
We have a team of girls who come up with creative and unique content on even the most written about topics.
Beside this we are the only blogger with this reach who has a youtube channel along with it. So your advertisers have been benefitting in two ways . J
If you had to give three crazy advice to budding bloggers, what would that be?
As cliché as it might sound the craziest thing that anyone can do is to never give up under any circumstances. The next thing is to have at least one strength that differentiates you from others. Work on what you feel you are best at.
Do you promote your blog? What promotional techniques work best for you and why?
Yes, this is the time when you cannot compromise with visibility as nobody has the time and energy to search for you. You have to be out there and I make sure that my blog is always making its presence felt.
Promoting my blogs through social media is something that I am very particular about.
I also tie up with PR organizations to take my blog forward…..
What do you find to be the most gratifying aspect of blogging?
I would say that connecting with so many new people is the biggest perk of blogging. Blogging is not easy but when you get the accolades for your work, all the hard work seems to be worth it.
And Influencer Marketing – what it holds for bloggers?
In my view, influencer marketing is a great way for bloggers to grow. It not only helps brands in connecting with potential buyers but it also provides more visibility to bloggers.
Engaging in influencer marketing is fruitful but most of the bloggers feel there are some characteristic problems while engaging with brands. How is your experience of engaging with brands and problems, if any?
As we enter the market pretty early even before Indian brands entered the social media market we got an edge. I do feel new brands still needs to understand this system but with time things are getting better everyday.
