For the people who don’t know about you, Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?
Hi, I am Nishita and I have been running Nishita’s Rants and Raves for the past seven years.
I am a writer based out of Bangalore, and I love all experiences – be it food, shopping, or travel. In my blog, I write about all these experiences and review some of them.
During my downtime, I love to read books, and this blog reflects that interest a lot.
Recently I also started my own youtube channel (where I talk books in a more casual setting), and I’ve been enjoying booktubing a lot.
Apart from my blog, I am also very active on Instagram and Pinterest.
Every website has a story behind it. What was yours? What was the motivation behind starting this Blog?
This blog started out as a personal blog, and still remains so to a great extent. I wanted a space of my own to document my life and the things that we do as a family.
Since then, I’ve expanded to book reviews and promotions, restaurant reviews, and journals of our travels.
Do you ever get stuck when writing a blog? What do you do then?
If I am stuck, I am stuck. I don’t try too hard to complete and push out a blog post. I tend to have two to three posts in draft status, and something has always clicked. Usually I write posts because I have something to say on the topic, so yeah, I don’t get stuck all that much.
If there was one thing that you feel makes your blog stand out, what would that be?
I guess it’s my personal take on things. Every book and restaurant review is detailed, and I explain clearly what I like/dislike, and more importantly why I like/dislike something.
In terms of design, I think the blog design, and header image really makes an impression on a first time reader. I’ve received a lot of compliments on it.
I think the versatility of my blog also makes it stand out. There is a little something for every reader, I think.
If you had to give three crazy advice to budding bloggers, what would that be?
The blog world is very crowded these days. Before you start blogging think of the reasons why:
Is this a personal blog, or a hobby blog?
Do you plan to monetize it?
Who are the readers you want to address your blog to?
These are just some of the questions you need to ask yourself before you start a blog. This will give you some sense of direction while planning your blog.
Do you promote your blog? What promotional techniques work best for you and why?
Yes, I do. I use indiblogger and it’s been incredibly useful for getting a blog visibility. Apart from that, yes, I tweet about my blog posts. Most important is getting a regular set of readers, so it’s important to get out there and connect with other bloggers who have similar interests. Hopefully, they”ll visit your blog, and you will have some loyal readers.
What do you find to be the most gratifying aspect of blogging?
The most gratifying part of blogging is when I write a good post and it gets a lot of attention.
And Influencer Marketing – what it holds for bloggers?
I do get offers to visit restaurants or review books, and it’s good fun. It’s great to catch up with other bloggers and share new experiences.
It is great to be able to share these experiences with readers, and let them know about great new books, wines, and food experiences.
Engaging in influencer marketing is fruitful but most of the bloggers feel there are some characteristic problems while engaging with brands. How is your experience of engaging with brands and problems, if any?
I don’t find any problems as such. If the brand is not a correct fit for the blog or my lifestyle, I can just say no. Where’s the problem? The only thing is that sometimes there are very tight deadlines to get a post out, and if there is such urgency, the quality of the post may not be as good.
