Real FAQs of Influencer Marketing

Influencer marketing is a growing trend and a tactic that you should consider adding to your marketing mix. Given that influencer marketing is now the hottest new trend in the marketing space currently, all top brands are using this method to reach their potential audience.

Marketing via ‘influencers’ used to mean professional sports persons pitching expensive shoes or actors selling cosmetics. Today, thanks to social media to a very large extent, some of the most successful influencers are practically businesses themselves, with large followings and engaged users.

Keeping this in mind, we have put together a list of frequently asked questions about influencer marketing-

1. What is Influencer Marketing- How does it work?

It is a strong word of mouth marketing strategy. For a brand, a digital influencer is someone who could help increase the business of the brand and spread an organic word of mouth in the influencers circle in exchange for monetary benefits or free products/services.

A brand collaborates with an influencer on social media or via their blog to promote a product or service on a specific online channel.

The strategy involves content creation & amplification across various social media channels including-
  • Twitter
  • Instagram
  • Facebook
  • YouTube
  • Linkedin
  • Pinterest
  • Blogs

2. Why Should I Use Influencer Marketing?

Influencer marketing works for three reasons:
  •  Relies on trust: It takes advantage (in a good way) of the trust influencers have earned from their    constituency.
  • Penetrates a niche: Influencer marketing relies not on breadth but depth regarding numbers — a  heuristic that says it’s better to penetrate deeply into a niche market rather than shallowly across a  broad market.
  • It’s Targetable and Trackable: Decisions without data are shots in the dark at best. For decades,  the advertising industry was limited to shooting in the dark, having only access to traditional   strategies that yielded murky information about audience reach, sales funnel influence, and branding   impact.
It can be cost effective too without requiring a huge investment of resources.

3. In what scenario’s can I use influencer marketing?

Influencer marketing can be used by varied brands in multiple ways. For example, a startup or a new product/service launch can be enabled via influencer marketing – e.g. Le Eco phone launch. An existing brand can leverage it to promote a new product line or category – e.g. Honda launched its new car through influencers. Influencers are a great way to amplify an existing social media or integrated campaign – e.g. we are currently running a campaign for Shoppers Stop to amplify their shopping sale.

Here is a list of top influencer campaigns that blogmint recently executed:

4. Why is Influencer Marketing Popular?
There used to be a time when brands turned to big celebrities for product endorsements. Influencer marketing is the digital version of that, except celebrities in this case are social media peers or bloggers with significant following and reach.

Many a times before purchasing a particular product, a consumer turns to his/her peer for an opinion on the product. The brand collaborates with Influencers because the influencers have the power to influence the decision-making of their following.

You can have a look at our Digital Marketing Industry Report which showcases that 87% of marketing and communications professionals will use Influencer Engagement in 2016.

5. How do I identify the right influencer for my brand?

Influencers are broadly divided into 4 categories –
  • Key/Celebrity Influencers: Include celebrities, industry thought leaders and leading bloggers
  • Social Influencers: Individuals with significant online influence like social media celebrities
  • Peer Influencers: Individuals closest to the consumer circle like – family, friends, colleagues
  • Bloggers
Influencers typically focus on a particular area like food, parenting, fitness, fashion, e-commerce or technology. Influencer marketing platforms like Blogmint have huge database of influencers across all genre. Relevant influencers are usually shortlisted based on the brand, its business, target audience, geography and the marketing objective.
e.g. - A new restaurant looking for launch would engage food bloggers who can help cover their brand on blogs and social media channels.

6. How are Influencers shortlisted?

Our platform shortlists based on the following metrics:
  • MOZ Domain Authority- It reflects the popularity of the blog. It represents the importance of the web page on the internet. A good MoZ rank is between 25-39.
  • Quality of content – The quality of the content is very crucial. The right quality of content can inspire the audience to take the right action.
  • Unique visitors to the Blog – In addition to the page views and traffic that a bloggers draws to his website, Unique visitors help spread the brands story to the target audience. Size and quality of followers is an important metric to consider while shortlisting.
  • Relevance to the brand – It is very important to pick relevant blogger for the relevant campaign. The relevant blogger helps pushing the brand message to his target audience.
  • Previous work – This gives you a sense of the blogger's work. Previous performance data like – social media engagement, likes on their blogs, shares help you narrow your choice.

7. What is the ROI I can expect through influencer marketing?

This is the most often asked question by brands. Influencer marketing helps in brand building, loyalty, social media engagement and in the mid to long term even helps in growing sales and revenue.
In the short term, brands should not expect a large spike in the transactions due to Influencer marketing but can expect authentic word of mouth with their target audience. Apart from creating amazing content, influencer marketing helps in driving traffic to the website/app, social media engagement- shares, likes, links to the article, total impressions, higher ranking through quality backlinks (SEO), growth in organic traffic and eventually sales/leads

8. Are the Influencers Paid ?

Nothing is free in this world. Influencers are compensated for the campaigns in either monetary terms or free samples/service/products depending on the business and campaign.

We hope we have motivated you to launch your campaign and get influencers to cover your brand!

INFLUENCER INTERVIEW: PANKAJ BANSAL

Q1: For the people who don’t know about you, Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?
A: I am interested in two things: reading and writing. Reading keeps me updated about what is going around in the world. Writing gives me the power to express my opinion about things that I like or dislike, When you blend both these things: IT BRINGS OUT THE BLOGGER IN ME. That is who I am. I like to express my opinion and aware people.

My blog, Newspatrolling.com is a Multi-Author platform, where various authors (from different parts of countries) have expertise in various writing field or space share their views & opinion on their personal experience & research. Here, readers could find only unbiased stories & reviews around maximum domains like Entertainment, Life Style, Travel, Health, Finance, Automobile and more.

Our primary motto is to maintain the integrity of our blog stories and opinions. We are the voice of several individuals and organizations that utilize our platform as an effective alternative for mainstream media.

Q2: Every website has a story behind it. What was yours? What was the motivation behind starting this Blog?
A: I still remember that day, I was in Standard VIII, I just started taking English tuition's. First advice my English tutor gave me was to read morning newspaper daily. I continued following that and I even read a lot nowadays. After being a silent reader for a while I felt the urge to express my opinions about what is happening around me. So, I started blogging and expressing. And after a while I wanted to have my own platform to do that, thus I started News Patrolling.

Q 3. Do you ever get stuck when writing a blog? What do you do then?
A: Many times. Right and wrong are just perspectives. When you write about something you have to stay neutral. That can be challenging at times. What I do in such scenarios is to listen to my heart and write what comes up.

Q 4: If there was one thing that you feel makes your blog stand out, what would that be?
A: Honesty. You will find nothing but honest opinions in my blogs.

Q 5: If you had to give three crazy advices to budding bloggers, what would that be?
A: Be daring, write on relevant topics and give honest views.

Q 6: Do you promote your blog? What promotional techniques work best for you and why?
A: Promotion works only when your topics are crowd pullers. My biggest source of promotion is the choice of topics. I write about things that generate interest and encourage online visitors to read through. Apart from this, I know a few SEO tricks too!

Q 7: What do you find to be the most gratifying aspect of blogging?
A: Freedom to express yourself, to write about things that prick your mind. That is the beauty of blogging.

Q 8: And Influencer Marketing – what it holds for bloggers?
A: Our primary mission is to seek ‘journalistic truth’ through our blogs, so, influencer marketing is secondary to us. It can be a byproduct of our endeavors; for example, when we let our readers know about a really good product, it would primarily be our mission to seek out the truth, although it will also act as an influencer.

Q 9: Engaging in influencer marketing is fruitful but most of the bloggers feel there are some characteristic problems while engaging with brands. How is your experience of engaging with brands and problems, if any?
A: Yes, agree. Big one is financial issue. It is very painful when Brands don’t make payment on time. And even, some don’t make after the work get done (they keep giving lame excuses & nothing).
But, from when, I get associated with BLOGMINT (As per to my knowledge, this is first only platform which is providing monetary benefits to bloggers), I never faced any financial issue. Even, it becomes easy to know which Brand has which type of requirement (like blog post, vlog, tweets, insta post etc).

So, would love to say BIG THANKS TO BLOGMINT to address the pain of bloggers.

Rise Of Social Influencers In Content Marketing

Social Influencers are the one who have huge following on their social media accounts and carry power of influencing others within their social sphere. If you look at the term  “Social Influencer” on Google Trends then you will notice that  interest around this topic has picked up an exponential growth since the  mid of 2015.

With the rise of social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter, companies all over the world finally gave into the fact that commerce had switched from its traditional places on radio and TV into digital world.

Who is A Social Influencer?

Someone with thousands of followers on social media, working in their categories, or are truly knowledgeable and authentic having the potential to introduce your brand, increase brand awareness or influence buying decision of their audience can be called as social influencer.

Why Is Content Marketing Important?

Content marketing represents the gap between what brands produce and what consumers actually want. An influencer generates word of mouth marketing for your product far more effectively than conventional advertising.

The best part of influencer marketing is that your brand promotion does not appear like a normal advertisement. The people who are going to promote your brand are adept at engaging audiences with their content. Your brand and its features are made to reach their followers in a more convincing manner which grants you assured back-links.

"Marketing is telling the world you're a rock star. Content Marketing is showing the world you are one."

How Brands Are Choosing Influencers Over Celebrities?

Many brands like LeEco, Amazon, Shoppersstop, Vogue, Craftsvilla, etc have involved social influencers in reaching out to their target audience. Each social influencer comes with built-in analytics that are far more precise than the results that one might receive from a celebrity endorsement.

Using an automated influencer marketing platform like Blogmint, brands can see number of followers of an influencer, no. of views generated on a content piece created by influencer and also their reach. They have better transparency instead of relying on the word of a celebrity’s agent.
With all of the above in mind, more businesses than ever are moving into the world of social influencers and away from traditional celebrity endorsements.

The best part about this movement is that social influencers are within the budget of even the smallest startup, meaning that a new company has the same leverage that an international brand has to compete.

Currently influencer marketing is so cost-effective that marketers can try it out with different influencers, gather analytics, and become more sophisticated buyers. There has never been a better time to get started.

So, Register on blogmint.com and leverage the power of social influencers!

“To work with influencers requires engagement and creativity from you. Once you find your influencers, you will need a plan to engage them.” –Evy Wilkins

Steps to Engage Influencers on Twitter:

  • Partner Up to Widen Your Reach

  • Communicate Your “Ask”

  • Make “Digital Eye Contact”

  • Continue the Conversation

  • Follow Up to Close the Loop

  • Build Relationships Before You Need Them

Social media is the most efficient way to build relationships with influencers and the most innovative one which is why not many business utilize this marketing tactic. Influencer Marketing focuses on key individuals (influencers) and their ability to influence mass followers. Influencer marketing involves marketing products and services to those who have a sway over the things other people buy. This market influence typically stems from an individual's expertise, popularity, or reputation. Marketing to an audience of influencers is similar to word of mouth marketing, but it doesn’t rely strictly on explicit recommendation.

Twitteratis have become important influencers because they are seen as authentic and have loyal followings. When a blogger recommends a product it seems more trustworthy than traditional advertising. By using influencers, companies can avoid much of the cynicism and skepticism that is directed at straight forward marketing messages.

This form of marketing is unique because it appeals to the needs of the influencer rather than the customer. Companies must give influencers respect and form open and organic relationships for the influencer to endorse a product. This might include giving the influencer access to a soon-to-be released product, or inviting the influencer to visit the company in person.

Why Influencer Marketing on Twitter?

  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – Search engines like Google factor social media influence into page ranks.
  • Return on Investment (ROI) – On average every $1 spent on influencer marketing yields $6.50 back.
  • Trust – 90% of consumers trust peer recommendations whilst 33% trust advert.
  • Popularity – 35% of social media professionals say they have a mature influencer relationship program. An additional 51% are planning to develop one according to emarketer.
